Great Southern Electrical Services delivered the electrical installation for a Uniconfort biomass boiler at MPC’s macadamia processing plant in the Ballina and Lismore region of northern New South Wales in 2018. Food processors of this kind depend on reliable heat for drying and processing, and during harvest the plant has little tolerance for downtime. The installation had to be completed and commissioned in a way that fitted the client’s operating calendar, with the new boiler integrated into the site’s existing electrical and control infrastructure.
Working to a seasonal deadline shaped how the project was planned. Materials and labour were organised ahead of mobilisation, and the installation was sequenced so testing and commissioning could be completed before the plant needed the boiler in service. The scope covered power supply to the boiler and its ancillary equipment, control panels, field cabling, and integration of the fuel handling, combustion and safety systems. Each drive, sensor and interlock was verified during commissioning, and the client received full test records and as-built documentation, with all work delivered to AS/NZS 3000. Seasonal processors have a lot in common with the grain and hay clients we support in Western Australia. The plant has to be ready when the crop arrives, and a delay at the wrong time of year is costly. That familiarity with harvest-driven operations, combined with our experience across multiple Uniconfort installations, made the MPC project a natural fit despite the distance from home.
